Paris, France is a place brimming with historical monuments, one-of-a-kind museums, and al fresco cafes, among other things. It is an artist’s paradise. The most famous museum in Paris (or perhaps even around the world) is The Louvre Museum.

The Arc de Triomphe is one of the most inspiring monuments ever erected in the history of France, standing tall and proud in the middle of Place Charles De Gaulle. Its construction and completion underwent several challenges.

But, what is Arc de Triomphe? What are the Dimensions of Arc de Triomphe that make it one of the most famous monuments in history?

Arc de Triomphe, A Brief Explanation?

Arc de Triomphe is dedicated to remember the brave french soldiers during Napoleonic Wars.

The names of the soldiers and the wars that they battled are inscribed within its silent walls. There’s a tomb underneath it for a certain unnamed from the WW-1. Rumor has it that the structure was taken after Roman’s Arch of Titus.

The Size and Structure of Arc de Triomphe

Approximatelly, the Arc de Triomphe stands about 50 meters or about 160 feet high, is 45 meters in width or about 150 ft wide, and 22 meters in depth or 72 feet deep.

Its size is so enormous and wide that once, a biplane actually passed through it and it fit perfectly! This memorable event (which was recorded as the most memorable air stunts involving the Arc de Triomphe) was a part of the celebrations in Paris for the end of the 1st World War, it was Charles Godefroy who piloted the aircraft.

It took a complete thirty-six years to be complete the arch constuction due to of interruptions in its construction somewhere between 1816 to about the late 1820s.

Taking a Closer Look of Arc de Triomphe

The monument is not something we can miss when visiting Paris. Within the Arch is a museum that tells the story of the Arch itself; from conception to completion.

We can also learn a lot about the structure within its museum wall, the inspiration behind its design plus the people responsible for creating one of the world’s most famous landmarks and monuments.

There is an underground pass available for tourist to to get to the Arch savely, without risking of getting run over by all the passing cars around it!

An elevator is available to take tourists to the top of the Arch. But, if we are more like an adventure-type of tourist, we can take all of the two hundred and eighty-four steps leading to the top of the Arc de Triomphe.
