Where To Go On Cape Town Holidays

Whether you are interested in activities of all descriptions or just want a place to relax in the sun and soak up some culture, Cape Town holidays are an excellent option. The only thing you need to decide is what you want to do while you’re in country.

The area around this city is full of things to do. There are lots of sights, as well as things that you can actively participate in. Be sure to have your camera on hand since this is something you’ll want to remember for a lifetime.

Beaches. There are quite a few beaches around Cape Town that you can check out. Boulder Beach is where you should head if you want to see penguins. You’ll have to stick to the walkways so you don’t disturb them, so no sunbathing here.

Other beaches do allow for swimming and sunbathing. They feature lovely white sand and are set against rugged mountains, for some great photos. There are a number of beaches within easy driving distance from anywhere you stay in the city.

Nature Reserve. Not only can you see the penguins at Boulder Beach during your stay, there are a number of other areas to check out nature. The Cape Point Nature Reserve is a beautiful place to visit. The waters here are those of the Cape of Good Hope, where some of the roughest seas in the world exist.

Shopping is something every traveler must do. There are souvenirs to be had and people back home to buy gifts for, so you’ll have to make sure that you hit the Green Market Square. This is a lovely market full of artisan items and souvenirs to take home with you.

Robben Island, a former prison for political prisoners is now a tourist site, as well. It’s possible to take a boat out to the island and take a tour around it and through the maximum security prison. A few of the tour guides are actually ex prisoners from the island, making it even more interesting.

For more outdoor goodness, the Kirstenbosch National Botanical Garden features a range of African plants. It’s actually world famous and you’ll learn a lot about the gardens here. There are also a number of other sights around the city that can be seen via cycling and walking tours.

Planning Cape Town holidays? You’ll enjoy the area no matter what your purpose in spending time there is. Whether you want to soak up the amazing atmosphere of Africa or check out the wildlife and plants, you’ll enjoy yourself in this city and the surrounding area.

The Simple Way To Calibrate A Pedometer Using Gmaps Pedometer

The primary feature of a pedometer is to report the actual distance covered during a walking, jogging or running exercise.

Pedometers are able to calculate the total distance covered by counting the number of steps taken during the exercise and multiplying that number by the pre-programmed average stride length.

It is very important when setting up your pedometer for the first time that the average stride length is as accurate as possible since this reading will be used to calculate all future distance readings.

To setup a pedometer that produces accurate readings of distance can be a difficult task to achieve as it involves lots of trial and error. In order to overcome this problem the Gmaps Pedometer application can be used to set a benchmark for the pedometer.

We first need to access the Gmaps pedometer site at http://www.gmap-pedometer.com in order to obtain our accurate distance for a given route which we can then use to calibrate our pedometer.

Above the map on the application screen enter your address in the “Jump to” box and click the “Go” button. You can then use the zoom controls to locate your exact home starting position.

Observe the map and look for a suitable walking route in the area around your house. Try to stay on level ground and use as many straight streets and roads avoiding curves or bends if possible, this will give a more accurate reading with Gmaps Pedometer. Start plotting your route on the map by clicking on the “Start Recording” button and double click on your home location.

As soon as you double click your home/start location, a red marker will appear on your screen. You will then continue along the selected route and double click your mouse at each turning point, after each of these turning points the red marker points will be joined together by a red line. Try to use as few markers as possible and follow the route back to the starting point. When you have completed the route, make a note of the distance that the application has calculated.

For optimum accuracy, it is better if the route that you map out is greater than a mile, the longer the route, the more steps that you will have to complete it and thus the closer your average stride length will be to a real average.

You now need to input your average stride length into the pedometer (check the instruction manual supplied with your device if you are not sure how to do this). You will then have an approximate distance reading that can be compared against the exact benchmark reading obtained from the Gmaps Pedometer application and you are now ready to calibrate your device.

When you reach the end of your planned route, compare the distance from your pedometer against the exact distance obtained from Gmaps Pedometer, if you were lucky, the 2 numbers will have matched, if not then you have to either shorten or lengthen your average stride in your pedometer depending if your compared results were above or below the exact Google Pedometer number.

This part of the process is trial and error and you will have to cover the planned route several times until your pedometer matches exactly what the Gmaps Pedometer reading was.

After you have an exact distance reading match on your pedometer, you can then use this time and again on different routes knowing now that your pedometer has been calibrated and is giving you accurate distance readings on all your routes.

You may want to check the calibration of your pedometer occasionally and you can simply do this by using the initial route that you first setup with the Google Pedometer application.

For the serious jogger, runner, or walker that needs distance accuracy from their pedometer, the Gmaps Pedometer application is an ideal and simple method to achieve and maintain this function.

Now that you are an expert onhow to calibrate your pedometer using the Google Pedometer application, discover other useful tips, tricks and techniques to get the most out of Google Pedometer by visiting my website.

Walking Holidays Rock

To go out and do lots of activity based things has certainly not ever been an interest of mine. My opinion was that I do a lot of activity at work and would rather just sit on a sunny beach and enjoy the glorious sunshine or even sit around a pool in a nice cosy villa.

However this all changed when I was invited to go on what I thought to be one of those waste of time active holidays however when I received the invite I had a bit of holiday left over and thought screw it I will just go. After booking it I was then told the news that it wasn’t just an active holiday but one of those walking holidays.

Walking for a week was not something I was over the moon about but still I got on with it and gave it a go. I had a change of heart as soon as I started the journey, I could not believe it. I was able to see the world for what it was and it was great to get out of the city and into the great wilderness. It is so amazing to sit and watch wildlife as it carries on with its everyday behaviour.

The cases were no worry to us at all as they were being taken from one inn to the next in time for us to use them in the evening when we needed them the most. We only really needed the the things for the day which was really brilliant. The thing I was most worried about was my Diabetic items simply because they need to stay cool, but it all turned out fine.

We actually went on a Costa Rica Holidays but there are so many other active and walking holidays out there to choose from, it changed the way I thought about the world and it may be worth going on one yourself.

Destination Australia - Mount Tamborine’s great outdoors

Located approximately 60 kilometres south of Queensland’s capital city of Brisbane, Tamborine Mountain is a volcanic plateau set within Australia’s Gold Coast hinterland.

An outpouring of lava from nearby Mount Warning - many millenia ago - created Tamborine Mountain’s lush, forested plateau which is approximately 8 km long by 5 km wide and now sits 600 metres above sea level.

The many attractions of the Mount Tamborine area and its picturesque villages include craft and antique shops, cafes and restaurants and numerous galleries which attract thousands of tourists every season.

The area is also known for its award-winning wineries with many offering tours, free tastings and affordable meals in beautiful surroundings. If you enjoy walking, nine National Parks within the Tamborine Mountain region await you. Shady walking tracks lead through stunning subtropical rainforest and past breathtaking waterfalls, natural swimming holes and rock pools. Sun dappled picnic and BBQ areas pepper the way and spectacular lookouts offer stunning views towards the ocean as well as to the West over the hinterland.

The Rainforest Discovery Skywalk is one of the latest Tamborine Mountain attractions and was completed in early 2009. Set on 30 acres of magnificent rainforest and alongside a tumbling creek, the Skywalk consists of an eco walking trail that leads to a 40m-long platform set 30m above the rainforest canopy. A short drive away, another popular attraction are the Glow-worm Caves that offer guided underground sightseeing tours through two spectacular man made caves filled with thousands of glow worms.

The rich volcanic soil of the area supports a diversity of horticulture which can be enjoyed on nature walks as well as by visiting the local Botanic Gardens. The bounty of many Tamborine Mountain residents’ gardens is also on display at several roadside stalls that abound with kiwi fruit, rhubarb, avocados and macadamia nuts quaintly displayed around an ‘Honesty Box’.

This small plateau also thrives with animal and bird life. Platypus, green tree frogs, scrub turkeys, wallabies and of course koalas form part of the Mountain’s varied range of wildlife and in the morning, the calls of lorikeets, kookaburras and lyrebirds can be heard.

The state of Queensland is known as Australia’s Sunshine State and on Tamborine Mountain, you can enjoy abundant sunshine year-round but without the heat and humidity that the more northerly parts of Queensland often endure.

The surfing beaches, shopping malls, theme parks (including Warner Brothers and Sea World) plus many other Gold Coast attractions are a comfortable 40-minute drive from Mount Tamborine while Brisbane is one hour away, making the Mountain the ideal ‘base-camp’ location from which to explore south-east Queensland.

The nearest international airport is Brisbane’s, however national travellers often opt for Coolangatta (Gold Coast) airport, a mere 45-minute drive from Tamborine Mountain.

Whether you are parents-to-be seeking a tranquil Babymoon destination, a newly engaged couple looking for that perfect Honeymoon location or if you are simply looking for the best Mount Tamborine accommodation you will delight in the serene privacy of Mount Tamborine’s Witches Falls Cottages.

Witches Falls Cottages offer an idyllic retreat to nature and consist of private cottages tucked away along rainforest pathways in one of Tamborine Mountain’s and perhaps even Australia’s most secluded and peaceful locations.

Simple Diet Tips That Work For Everyone

The best diet strategies will always be those that are easily incorporated into your daily lifestyle. Complicated programs that are difficult to stick with long term will never get you where you want to go.

Losing weight for good does require some lifestyle changes, but it can be done one step at a time. Presented here are just two simple ways to boost your weight loss efforts without wasting hours a day in the gym.

Timing: It’s time to stop thinking of carbs as something evil that must be avoided and simply put them in their place. Your body needs carbohydrates every single day because they are your primary source of energy. When you go through an intense workout or just walk up three flights of steps at work, you are depending on carbs to fuel that motion.

Here’s the secret to carbs: your body needs to use them for immediate energy or they will be stored for later use in your fat cells. That means if you eat a carb-rich meal and then sit on the couch all day they are likely to be stored rather than used. Similarly, if you eat more than your body needs for your current energy level they will go to your fat stores as well.

Therefore, it is a good idea to time your carbs so they are burnt up during the most active periods of your day. Maybe eating the bulk of them in the morning and then small amounts before workouts would work.

Water: You have probably heard that drinking water helps with weight loss, but there is more to the story. Did you know that most people who completely give up soda will lose 30 pounds or more in a single year?

These drinks keep you fat because they dry out your mouth, making you feel even more thirstier rather than satisfied. They keep you fat by making you crave more and more.

There is power in giving up these drinks and going with water. It may be less exciting to drink, but you will find that you are less thirsty, less hungry, and that you have a lot more energy once you start drinking water instead.

Water can actually serve as a natural appetite suppressant!

To feel less hunger and eat less at a big meal, drink a glass of water about 15 minutes before you eat. It gives a sense of satiety so you eat less.

Drink water in between meals and you will eat less over the course of the day without ever feeling hungry!

Do these strategies seem too simple to actually work? You may think that now, but just try them out for a week or two and you will see that simple changes to your everyday life can lead to other simple changes. In the end, you will be healthier, thinner, and a lot happier.
