Mountain Biking Injuries - How To Steer Clear of Them

Mountain Biking and indeed cycling in general is one of the most popular sports in the world. Part of its appeal comes from the fact that cycling can be done for fun, exercise, sport, or in a functional capacity such as commuting to work. However, anyone who has ridden their bike for any great length of time or at high intensity will be only too aware that pains and strains can creep in if you are not careful. Below are details of three very common cycling complaints and advice on how to avoid suffering them yourself.

Wrist Problems. A great deal of the force that is transmitted to the bike when you go over bumps travels up through the wrists. What’s more, as your upper body weight is usually pushing down on your wrists, they can often be put under a lot of strain and become inflamed or injured.Having quality suspension on the front forks of the bike will reduce a lot of the pressure, or if you cannot have suspension, make sure the forks have shock absorbing qualities like you find on the Specialized 2D.

Pain In The Backside. This is one of the most common complaints and is basically a result of repetitive pressure on the gluteus maximus (backside) muscle and surrounding sensitive areas. It can actually become quite serious if left untreated and if you want ensure that you can still have children, it’s worth taking precautions. If you are going to buy a new saddle it is well worth testing it out extensively and giving it a few miles worth of use, as sometimes saddles can start off comfortable, but cause problems after a while. You can also purchase specialised cycle clothing such as padded shorts which act to dampen the effect of harmful pressure.

Knee Problems
. A large number of cyclists report suffering from inflamed knee joints or damage to the cartilage in the knee. If you lock out your knees when you are cycling this can cause problems, but most often knee problems are a result of the bike. Try making sure all your bike components have shock-absorbing qualities, such as specialized road shoes which reduce the amount of force transferred through the knee joint.

Riding Your Mountain Bike In Winter

Mountain biking riding in freezing weather has always been a challenge. The problem is that you’ll start out chilly then warm up and break a sweat, making yourself wet. Then, when you travel downhill, the combination of wet skin and windchill will be quite chilling.

Below, you will find a list of the bitter weather garments that will make wintry weather riding less of a bone chilling experience.

Booties

In chilly temperatures, your feet are the most vulnerable part of your anatomy. Pressure from pedaling will tend to cut off the circulation to your toes, which can put you at a risk of frostbite. In bitter conditions, neoprene booties are a must have. They will zip over your shoes and even have a pattern in the sole where you can cut out a piece for cleats.

Gloves

There are several manufacturers that make “lobster gloves”, a hybrid glove that separates your index finger and thumb from the rest of your hand. These gloves are warmer than regular gloves, and the distinct index finger will allow you to operate your shifting and brake levers.

In case your hands get freezing, you should carry a pair of lightweight glove liners will you as well. If you have to stop to take care of a problem, the liners will protect your hands from the freezing.

Glasses

Glasses that wraparound and provide maximum protection from the wind are best to wear in the wintry weather. You can protect yourself from debris, as well as the wintry.

Socks

You should wear heavy socks although not to heavy. A sock that is overly heavy will make your shoes tight, cut off circulation, even make your feet chilly. You should try lightweight socks, as they will keep your feet warm without bulk. If you need an extra layer, try silk ski socks as they are very warm and also extra lightweight.

Underwear

Polypropylene is the best material here, as it is lightweight and best for colder temperatures.

Wind protection

Moving air is the biggest cause for losing body heat. By having good wind protection you’ll be able to vent perspiration while also protecting yourself from windchill. You should choose pants and a jacket based on durability, breathing, and price as these types of garments can get very experience.

Helmet and liners

Your head is very important, as you lose 50% of your body heat through your head. A helmet is designed to keep you cool in the summer, not warm in the wintry weather. A fleece liner inside your helmet will keep your head and ears warm during winter riding.

Great Places to Ride Your Bike in Alabama

Much of the biking in Alabama involves rocky hills, steep mountains, and thick forests. This can make for some challenging riding, but equally thrilling. Theres a little bit of everything here, so you should be able to find the perfect trail to match your skill level. Here are some of the best bike trails Alabama has to offer!

Mobile has the South Alabama Trails which are perfect for all skill levels. You can pick up speed on one of the many rolling hils or check out the technical switchbacks, whichever better suits your skills. The trail is over fifteen miles with a smaller seven mile connected. It is very well maintained and popular with the locals so it can get pretty crowded in the summertime months.

Oak Mountain State Park has some of the very best riding in the state of Alabama. Theres something here for everyone. Its located near Birmingham and does require a small admission fee. There are lots of trails ranging from tight and technical to roller coaster downhill sections in the parks 20 miles of track. Advanced riders will want to look for Blood Rock. This is the most technical part of the track.

The Swayback Bridge Trail near Wetumpka is approximately a 12 mile loop. It gets steep at times, but is quite a fun ride. There are lots of roots and rocks to keep you on your toes. The best time to ride is later in the morning, so that other bikers will have already cleared out all the spiders and spider webs that are strung across the trails! Have your camera handy for some great views of Lake Jordan.

Near Cullman is the Hurricane Creek Park which is only eight miles of trails but they are all technical and steep. Bring your full suspension bike for these bumpy advanced trails. The deep canyon provides a lot of freestyle opportunities and will be worn out after a day in Hurricane Creek. If you need a break during the day the landscape scenery is enough to rejuvenate anyone, just bring lots of water.

Huntsville, Alabama has the Montesano State Park. This state park is over thirty miles of bumpy, twisting trails. The trail follows the mountain so some are pretty dangerous with big drops. If a trail isn’t designated for bikes, that do not go on it. These trails should all be pretty well marked. There are trails for easy family riding too but most trails expect you to have some experience.

The Colonial Hills ORV is also near Huntsville and is for the extremely skilled biker. It is well-loved by dirt bikes especially. There are several long climbs in the 15 miles of track, but you are then rewarded with the most incredible descents youve ever experienced! Keep a watch out for the stumps at the bottom though. There are also some rocky, technical sections as well.

These are a few of my favorite trails in Alabama. Thanks to the mild winters of the American south, you can pretty much ride these trails all year long. The summer will be a little more crowded, humid and buggy so I recommend the fall for conquering Alabamas trails. Remember the water and to have a good time.

Skiing : Ski Trips

We look at taking a ski vacation in this installment of our learn to ski guide.

While budget may be your first consideration, there are other factors that you will need to consider when you begin to plan your skiing trip and need to select a resort; these should include the quality of the resort and where it is, as well as its character and overall ambiance.  We can break these important factors down into smaller components. . . .

The three most popular skiing locations are Canada, France, and the U.S., however Andorra, Austria, Bulgaria, Italy, and Switzerland are also well-liked destinations.  While prices may vary a great deal during different times of the year, the better-known countries will most likely be more expensive.  Planning your trip to coincide with the beginning or end of the ski season can net you significant discounts.

On the issue of costs, your total spending for a skiing trip will likely include: travel; accommodation; ski pass; ski lessons; equipment rental; insurance; food and drink.  Research the cost of things at resorts as well as the costs of getting to and staying there.  Because there is little competition for retailers in the mountain resorts, prices tend to be higher than they are at home.  To minimize costs, plan carefully and take with you those things that could be more expensive in the resort town, and do a bit of advance research to see what discounts you might find on-line for the things you will need.

Every country is different and every resort is different, so after you have decided on a location, make sure that the quality and types of facilities in which you are interested are offered by that country and/or resort.  Things you will want to consider are:  the number of ski slopes and whether there are ski schools; the availability of other activities such as ice skating, tobogganing, or snowboarding; the availability of eating and entertainment establishments, and of major importance, the types of available lodging, as these can include not just standard hotels, but can range from dormitories to chalets.  Prices for all of these things can be drastically different from resort to resort, and you cannot rely on the price to give you a clue as to quality.  Lesser known resorts in emerging countries (for example Andorra and Bulgaria) may well have facilities that are equal to or better more famous resorts, and at a lower cost.

Then you’ll want to look into the character and ambiance of potential resorts.  Will you be happy with a modern, newly built ski facility out in the middle of nowhere, or is it important to be near a historic mountain town with lots of local color and flavor?  Shy away from resorts that attract a party-crowd if your plan is to turn in early and hit the slopes while the snow is fresh; but if you want the energetic party atmosphere, do not choose a location where it’s lights-out at 10:00 p.m.  Each resort has a little something different to offer, and it will make your stay more enjoyable if you do a little research on the front end to see what matches your tastes and expectations.

No need to worry about international toll calls when the internet is available to assist you with your research – to find the prices, services, and amenities of a resort, visit each one’s official website, and don’t just take it from them, type the resort name and ‘+ review’ into a search engine to see what other visitors have said about it.

Hop On The Internet Video Marketing Wagon

You have probably heard whispers of it, maybe even caught a brief sight of it yourself. Countless video sites on the web are just now getting it off the ground. Video is literally taking over the internet. A few years ago, online videos were few and far between, but now they’re more common than colored lights at Christmas, and internet video marketing is the blossoming new business that’s rolling out of the station on that particular freight train. Small businesses are hitching a ride as well, because for almost no investment, with the properly presented message, they can launch their products around the world in the blink of an eye.

Exactly right now, the elevator is on the ground floor, time to rush on. People are tired of opening their online junk mail. The idea isn’t new. In fact, it’s been around for about 20 years, but most of the video you come across online is still of individual web surfers clowning around or blabbering on about nothing at all.

The fact that e-mail has become so mainstream has essentially deadened its impact as a forum for advertising. People don’t even notice the ads that wait for them in their inboxes. We’re so used to having them incessantly around that they have become like faces, passing in a crowd, instantly forgettable. We simply come across too many new faces in any given day to process almost any of them at all.

E-mail is actually the bad guy in this story. People just blow through it, ignoring the marketing spam, deleting it without giving it the time of day.

Electronic mail just isn’t fun anymore. It’s so full of spam that, nowadays, you’d be hard pressed to find anyone who gets excited when they see 37 new messages in their inbox.

Now, imagine you’re an internet marketer. You have an honest message that people will want to read. How are you going to get it to them if the spam filter on their inboxes just sweeps your e-mail away with all the trash?

But internet video marketing is paving the new road to success. For your business, it would be child’s play to have your products or services hitch a ride.

There are hundreds of free sites out there, waiting for you to come along and post your customized product video, or you could just do it yourself on your own site. You’ll already be jumping light-years ahead of the competition.

If your target market is under 40, you’ve got it made. Gen. X’s and their successors are eating up online video, and internet video marketing is absolutely exploding. Take advantage of it, and send a brilliant visual message to your target audience that a flat old e-mail could never convey!

Online Video Marketing Can Change Your Business

If you have your own business, you should consider online video marketing as way to promote your business. You already have a website and you may wonder why you would need a video to sell your product or your vision. People do not have a lot of time to peruse an entire website to understand what it is that you are trying to sell.

So if you want advertise your product you have an extremely short time to get someone’s attention. After that, you have to find a way to hold it once you have it. You may already have a great website with explosive graphics and well thought out text. But most people will only stay on a webpage for a few seconds before making a judgment and then moving on to their next idea.

If you are selling a chair, an image and a brief description will probably do. But if you are trying to explain how your business idea will make people money, online video marketing make the explanation so much easier to understand.

It takes a lot of money to make a commercial for television. You have to hope and pray your commercial does not end up running in the wee hours of the morning in between the commercial for penis extension and the next greatest diet control pill. Online video marketing gives you all the control you need.

You Tube has become a great platform for online advertisements. You can produce a video of good quality with a wealth of information for less than a thousand dollars. If you do not have a lot of money, try not to compromise on the quality of your video.

You do not want to cut back on the quality of your video. By spending a little more on the video equipment you have a more professional looking video. If you can, record in high definition for a better image quality and an up-to-date look.

Do not stop at You Tube with your video. Add the video to your existing web page or even your Facebook page. There are free services that allow you to post your video once and they will distribute your video to several other different sites. Remember to use well thought out SEO tags, so that your video will come up in a search. Even though this is your video creation, keep humor at a minimum. What you think is funny, may be offensive to someone else.

Just How Tough Is A Carbon Fiber Bicycle

There is a misconception that Carbon Fiber Bikes are produced and built for toughness as well as for a lighter weight. This is not true. The real truth regarding products made from carbon fiber is that they are lightweight and are produced in different shapes and designs, the actual toughness of the product can be destroyed very easily.

If you are definite regarding owning carbon fiber bike components, or are a serious road racer or triathlete you will be aware that reducing the ounces will mean everything when it comes to professional sports activities. By getting a carbon fiber part it will make a real difference to your speed also also the effectiveness of your cycle and give you with an edge against the other competitors.

If the frame set on your new Carbon Fiber Bike gets a heavy scratch or gouge after a crash, it can render the bike useless. A crack will mean that the cycle is probably best disposed of. Carbon fiber bikes can be mended, but because of the way that the material and product is made and shaped uniquely to the design of your frame, it might not be as good as before.

If the tubing develops a split or crack, this will soon be the weak area in the bike frame and will cause additional stress which might eventually make the tubing to crack open. You will certainly not be allowed to ride or use the bike on a downhill trail or over any difficult terrain ever again.

Those who are not a serious rider, you may consider getting a less expensive combo frame such as a aluminum mix which will give you the benefits of the bike frame being very light, but it will also allow you a cycle with greater strength overall. If you purchased something such as a carbon fiber seat post, you will find that the item is not just made using that material and that it is made from a hybrid created to make it lighter but also much stronger.

Which Pontoon Bimini Top Is Best, And Why

Owning a pontoon presents the owner with the many benefits of sailing. Also called the “Party Boat”, the pontoon is a popular choice for hosting off shore parties. This is largely because of its easy use and control—factors that are essential on every sailor’s list. What isn’t found on anyone’s list when they sail out is staying under the harsh glare of the sun—this is where Bimini tops for pontoons come in.

With a bimini top you will havesuitable protection from the effects of the sun’s rays when you sail out in your pontoon. Bimini tops are easily accessible and can be found in different sizes and quality. With it’s easy to use features, bimini tops are constructed to be folded open or rolled up, adapting to what your needs at the moment might be. Typically Bimini tops are installed on the deck of the pontoon . When the Bimini tops are in the open position they are held in place by a pair of hinges, typically placed on either side of the boat Most bimini tops possess a small container where the Bimini top can be stowed when its use is no longer required. If you are aiming at acquiring a Bimini top for your new pontoon boat or simply looking to change the old one then, there are some details which you will want topay attention too. Unsurprisingly, not every boat is the same. Therefore, for each pontoon, you will need to address the areas of size, style and accessories.

Bimini Dimensions:

Getting a pontoon bimini top that is a size too large or small can cause serious fitting problems. Adressing this issue is important. For instance, in deciding on the width of your bimini top, you will need to consider the span between the points where you intend on mounting your hinges. If the width is measured to be eight feet then your intended bimini top should not have a width that is lower. Just as important are the lengths of your tops. in the fitting of your bimini tops, the length of your tops are dependent on a singular mounting point which is typically located in the middle. Bimini tops can be found at lengths of 4’,6’’,8’and 10.

Bumping heads on the ceiling in the middle of the open waters is hardly anyone’s idea of a good time. However the height that you eventually settle on should be affected by the size and type of your boat. Fishing boats for instance are found to be equipped with heights ranging around the 40’mark, whilst ski boats have tops with lower heights installed.. In the event that you are still unsure of your pontoon details, a quick search online will locate dealers who will are more than competent in this area.

Style

It should not be surprising that, the type of material your bimini top is made out of, will affect your expenses and efficiency of your bimini. Higher grade fabrics will cost more than those of lesser grade. In choosing which is best suited for your pontoon, you will need to consider the frequency of its use. For regular sailing use, settling for the best fabric will be to your advantage This will go miles in saving you money in the long run.

Accessories For The Bimini

Finally, it is possible to find accessories that will prove useful in the maintenance and protection of your bimini top. Find out which of these are available.
